These birds swirl and whorl in spectacular flight patterns as they flock and then roost inside chimneys in the Pacific Northwest and South America. Their claws do not allow them to perch. Instead, they hang from vertical surfaces. With deforestation, they have adapted their roosting habitats from hollow tree trunks to the interiors of chimneys and smokestacks.
